About Small Town Tourist

Somewhere in southern France, 2024
It Started with a Wrong Turn
Small Town Tourist began the way all good travel stories do — with a wrong turn. On a road trip through the French countryside, a missed exit led to a village so small it didn't appear on the GPS. There was a bakery, a church, a square with a fountain, and an old man who insisted on buying us coffee.
That afternoon changed everything. We realized that the most memorable travel experiences weren't happening in the famous cities we'd planned to visit. They were happening in the places we'd never heard of — the places that required getting lost to find.
Since then, we've made it our mission to seek out, explore, and write about the world's most charming small towns. Not the ones with the biggest marketing budgets or the most Instagram hashtags, but the ones with the most character, the warmest welcomes, and the best stories.
Our Values
Authentic Discovery
We seek out places that haven't been polished for tourists. The beauty of a small town lies in its imperfections — the crooked street, the faded sign, the church bell that's slightly off-key.
Thoughtful Storytelling
Every article is written from personal experience, with the kind of detail that only comes from actually being there. We don't write about places we haven't walked through ourselves.
Respectful Travel
Small towns are someone's home. We advocate for travel that supports local communities, preserves character, and leaves places better than we found them.
Off the Beaten Path
The best travel experiences happen when you put away the guidebook and follow your curiosity. We help you find the starting point — the rest is your adventure.
"The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only one page. But those who skip the small towns miss the best chapters."
